Repeat

Hello Class!! I feel like we are starting over with introductions.  We seem to have grown so much in the last few semesters I hate to repeat precious moments.  I actually started my own blog, trying to improve my skills and sound like I know what I am doing....haha I had two entries and forgot about it.
On another note a defining moment was a meeting with a social worker at the VA hospital in Missouri.  We had a mutual mentally ill client and she met with him bi-weekly and she just seemed to solve all his problems in one visit. I liked the counseling piece with the resource help.  Several years later I realized I needed a special program to become a social worker.  Now, the more I learn, the more I am excited about the journey and what it means to help others.
After my BS degree, I worked as a QMHP for four years. A qualified mental health professional --- or a case manager.  I have worked as a Social Worker now this last year.  I am really understanding more about this field and my role more through school than job experience. In the past it was the other way around.  Academic history .... I have an AS degree in Administrative Justice from Sierra College in Placer County California.  I earned a tri-degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology from Drury University in Missouri.
My goals are to stay in the program and graduate with MSW.  Hopefully get an LCSW someday and maybe work in social services with children.  I enjoyed mental illness and may end up at the Veterans Administration some day.My options are open. I looked at a Public Guardian job and that seems interesting.
One thing about me- I like homemade hats-beanies-scarves with crocheting or knitting because it is simply a talent I do not possess.

This is my honey Johnny and the rest are my puppies-Jodee, Pepper, and Fergie:)

  2. Wow Nikkie, I really thought it was interesting that your academic experiences this time are proving more informative that your in field experiences. That is wonderful, and is likely the case for many of us, as I would say a a great deal of us have a good amount of personal experience under our belt, and are somewhat familiar with many of the day-in day-out dynamics of the social services industry, but could learn a thing or two about the variety of theories that exist in the industry. If you are interested I have access to a fantastic array of crocheted items, and even know where you can get custom work done... Winter is coming up...
